Eight of Pennsylvania’s best drivers will converge on Chester Racetrack Sunday, December 18 to battle it out for their share of $50,000 in total prize money
.
The winner will receive $15,000, while the second and third-place finishers will take home $10,000 and $8,000, respectively. Consolation prizes for fourth through eighth-place range from $6,000 to $1,000. As with the East Meets West challenge which was conducted at Pocono Downs earlier this year, drivers will pick one race, while the rest will be drawn, and a points system will be used for scoring.
Participants will donate 10 per cent of their prize winnings to 'Operation Warm,' which inspires hope and empowers communities by manufacturing and distributing new winter coats to children in need. Since its inception in 1998, Operation Warm (operationwarm.org) has provided the gift of warmth to nearly one million children.
"With such difficult economic times, every penny counts. This incredible event has aided families in Chester since 2008. We are so grateful for the drivers’ generosity,” said Carey Palmquist, executive director of Operation Warm. “These coats do more than provide warmth. They help build self-esteem. With the gift of warmth, families can free up scarce funds to pay for food, rent, and heat. The loyal support by the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association has helped us reach our goal to serve our millionth child this year.”
