Live harness racing continues Sunday (Nov. 5) afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park featuring the opening leg of the Joe MacRae Memorial Fall Series.

The capital oval has a 12-dash presentation starting at 12:30 P.M., with the MacRae Memorial series for five-year-olds and older who are non-winners of $4,500 in 2023. The series is presented by MacRae Backhoe and Trucking.

West Coast Kid is favoured in his MacRae division in race six with David Dowling set to supply the steer for trainer and co-owner Philip Kelly of Emyvale and co-owners Lynn MacLaren, John MacKenzie and Colton Profitt. The five-year-old son of Betterthancheddar was a winner in his latest outing in 1:57.2 with Brodie MacPhee in the seat that day. MacPhee is absent from action on Sunday while travelling. West Coast Kid will have five foes in his $3,000 division including second choice Zack The Men (To be driven by Marc Campbell) from the Michael MacDonald barn as well as post six starter Dividend Day (Brad Smith) at 7-2 odds.

The Post Time Picks will side with West Coast Kid

“West Coast Kid flipped off cover late last week reaching up to get the gold. It was an excellent effort and he now draws post three so there’s a strong chance he’s smiling for the camera again.”

Painted Pony is pegged to be top dog in his $3,000 MacRae division in race four as the veteran son of SS Sand Dollar approaches mandatory retirement on Dec. 31 before his 15th birthday. The 46-time winner has Campbell in the seat for owner-trainer Raymond White of Belfast. His main opposition is rail sitter Egamer (Ken Murphy) for trainer Garth Cole as well as post six starter Silverhill Buddy (Dowling) who is co-owned by Joanne MacRae, daughter of the late Joe MacRae.

St Lads Skip (Dowling) is top choice in the other division in race two from the Brendan Mullen barn. Leaving from post two, the five-year-old son of Sunshine Beach is co-owned by Mullen along with Dean Lewis and Josh O’Hanley. Sweet Silvia (Murphy) is a top choice from post four along with Lock Her Up (Kenny Arsenault) with post five.

Race 11 of the day is the $3,800 Preferred 1 Pace with Mantario (Jason Hughes), Island Beach Boy (Adam Merner), Stash It Away (Murphy), Fern Hill General (Arsenault), Time To Dance (Campbell) and Rollwithhottytoddy (Myles Heffernan Sr.).
