Milleniums Girl and driver Barton Dalious won the featured $6,500 fillies and mares pace at Vernon Downs on Friday, Nov. 3.
Milleniums Girl ($5.60) blasted out for the lead in a :26.4 quarter. Favourite So Diva (Chris Long) went first-up going down the backstretch and was head-to-head with Milleniums Girl at the half in :56.3. The two mares battled all the way around the final turn, but Milleniums Girl broke free past three-quarters in 1:25.4. As they reached the stretch, it became a race for second with Milleniums Girl winning easily in 1:53.4. The Hunt Is On (Truman Gale) fired late to finish second, more than three lengths behind the winner. Jeannies Terror (Tom Merton) collected third money.
Milleniums Girl is a five-year-old mare by Royel Millennium. She is trained by David Dewhurst for owners Chris and Dale Lawton. The win was her fourth of the season from 21 starts and she now has 14 career victories.
Dalious, John MacDonald and Chris Long all had driving doubles.
Live harness racing returns to Vernon Downs on Saturday, Nov. 4 with an 11-race card starting at 6:05 p.m.
