There might be something to the naming of The Greek Freak.
In 2024, at the age of seven, the son of Captaintreacherous - Thirty X posted his best season since his stakes-winning sophomore campaign in 2020 where he raced against the likes of Tall Dark Stranger and Cattlewash. This past July, The Greek Freak sped to a new lifetime mark of 1:48.4 at Woodbine Mohawk Park and his seasonal earnings sit just shy of six figures — something only accomplished previously during that three-year-old year.
Last seen in pari-mutuel action on Oct. 5, The Greek Freak returned to the racetrack during the session of qualifiers on Friday, Nov. 29 at Mohawk and once again found the wire first. Tyler Jones guided the Garry Merner trainee to a front-stepping score in 1:56.2 over the track listed with a one-second variant and temperatures hovering around the freezing mark. He was nearly four lengths better than Delitfulcatherin N, driven by a birthday-celebrating Louis-Philippe Roy, with Rockin N Talkin next to cross the wire for driver James MacDonald.
Gino Toscani of Mount Hope, Ont. owns The Greek Freak, a 17-time winner with more than $530,000 in career purses.
