Mighty Performance For 'Hercules'

Windsong Hercules is a trotter that has tested the patience of trainer/driver Rick Zeron on more than one occasion, but Tuesday night was an exception

.

The fleet-footed, yet temperamental, three-year-old son of Windsongs Legacy-Early Secret took a sharp speed badge of 1:54 earlier this season at Mohawk Racetrack, but since then he’s really come off the rails. He minded his manners from start to finish in his Tuesday evening assignment, and he did so against some decent company.

Windsong Hercules took on six foes in the $15,000 Preferred #2 Trot at the Innisfil, ON oval and he had no problem getting the job done as the 2-1 second choice.

Zeron hustled the gelding into the four-hole after starting from Post 7, while Chinnys Wings and Quarter Bayama battled to the quarter pole in :28.3 before the latter muscled his way to the lead. Quarter Bayama hit the half in :57.1 and the three-quarter pole in 1:27.1 before succumbing to pressure. Chick N Tell went after him in the third quarter, and in doing so it set things up nicely for Windsong Hercules, who was advancing on cover from second over. A :29-second final quarter was more than enough to propel Windsong Hercules to the win over Lexis D J by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:56.4. Chick N Tell had to settle for third prize.

Owned by The Brabant Stable of London, ON, Windsong Hercules bettered his 2011 record to 4-1-0 in seven tries with the win. The lightly-raced sophomore, who didn’t race as a rookie, has banked close to $68,000 to date.
