After finishing third in both preliminary legs, Owhatabeachbum stepped it up a notch to capture the $15,000 Harvest Series Final on Saturday night at Sudbury Downs

Owhatabeachbum, with David Dowling, carved out fractions of :29, :58.3 and 1:28.3 while favourite Magnum Star (Pascal Berube), who maintained a perfect record in the series, raced alongside through the middle panels. The seven-year-old son of Jennas Beach Boy-Owhat A Show turned back his challenger and kicked away by three lengths in the stretch for the 1:58.2 victory.
Luv Machine (Gerry Belanger) finished second off a pocket-trip with Mud Bog (Jay Polifroni) rallying from the backfield to get third.
Sent off as the fourth choice in a field nine, Owhatabeachbum returned $15.30 to win.
Notching his eighth triumph in 38 seasonal starts, Owhatabeachbum lifted his earnings to $52,394 for trainer Mike Lamoureux and Harness Racing Owner of Barrie, Ont. The winner of 38 races has banked $276,904 to date.
In total, Dowling scored five wins on the 13-race card including three with Lamoureux.
In Saturday’s $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Pace, 3-1 second choice Rush Rules and driver Gerry Belanger wore down pacesetter Deuces And Jacks (Paul MacLean) and held off Sjs Nitelife (Wayne MacLean) by half a length to win for the eighth time in 27 starts this year. The five-year-old Scooter Scott-Sf Cavalier gelding, who now boasts $72,220 in earnings, stopped the clock in 1:57.2. Favourite Seawind Gambler (Allan Hohner) finished a length back in third.
Rush Rules, a winner of 19 races and $132,190 lifetime, is trained by Rick Shakes and owned and bred by Robert Truman of Harbor Springs, Michigan.
