With Simon Allard in the bike for trainer Rene Allard, E L Miss Pom squashed her stablemate’s dreams of pulling off a sweep of the Innisfil Cup Claiming Series Friday night at Georgian Downs

E L Miss Pom got away fourth in the $31,600 final from the inside post in the field of nine - the top money earners of the series – while stablemate Coup De Foudre (Mike Langdon) secured the lead from post 5. After the :29.2 opener, E L Miss Pom tipped to the outside flushing I Dont Know Mo (Tony Kerwood) out in front.
After a :59.4 half, Allard moved three-wide with his charge in pursuit of the leader. E L Miss Pom advanced through three-quarters in 1:30.1 and matched strides with Coup De Foudre as they headed into the final turn.
The 1-2 co-favourites took off down the stretch in battle but it was E L Miss Pom who managed to push ahead by a length and a half to capture the victory in 1:59.4. Zorgwijk Impact (Aaron Byron) finished 10 and a half lengths behind.
E L Miss Pom, who was second in her opening leg division of the series and won in the second round, is owned by Rene along with John Nother of Brampton, Ont. and Sherwin Edwards of Terrebonne, Que. The five-year-old daughter of Wonder Worker One-Pom Derable notched her sixth seasonal win in 27 starts and bumped her earnings to $66,670. She is now a six-time career winner with a bankroll of $84,760.
The win marked Simon's third on the 11-race program.
