Driver Travis Cullen swept to the lead with Jodie Cullen trainee Outlaw Aceofspades and strode clear to a 1:53.1 win in the third race on Saturday night (Nov. 26) at Woodbine Mohawk Park – a win that notched a 2,000th victory onto Travis Cullen’s resume.
Leaving from post one, Cullen secured a spot in third to a :26.3 first quarter set by Night Club Hanover, who rolled to a :55.1 half and to three-quarters in 1:24. Ideal Jet popped pocket spinning for home with Outlaw Aceofspades in behind but promptly retreated in the lane. Outlaw Aceofspades then kicked to the lead and to a 1-3/4-length win over even-money favourite Millenium Seelster with Night Club Hanover fading to third and Petipou closing for fourth.
Travis Cullen co-owns Outlaw Aceofspades with Blair Kidd. The six-year-old Smart Shark gelding paid $10.50 to win.
Cullen, a Manitoba native who dominated the ranks of Western Canada before moving east to Ontario in 2016, has been in action since 2010. He is set to wrap a career-best year of his 12 years in the sulky with 300 wins already this season and $2.9 million in purses earned. Nearing the end of the season, Cullen currently sits eighth on the driver’s standings at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
