Alberta-sired freshmen contested in the opening round conditioned stakes action at Century Downs on Sunday, Nov. 25 with fillies competing in the opening prelim of the Alberta Snowflake and the boys in the first round of the Alberta Snowshoe.

Bim Bam Boom blitzed pacesetter Emily H heading into the final turn and posted a two-and-three-quarter length score when winning the kickoff leg of the Alberta Snowflake in 2:00.3.

Driver Brandon Campbell positioned the Harold Haining trainee fourth as Emily H dictated the tempo through a :29.4 first quarter and remained uncontested past a 1:00.4 half. Campbell then tipped the daughter of Mystery Chase first over into the backstretch and ranged within a half length of command by three-quarters in 1:30.1 before sliding to the helm into the lane. Emily H chased from second with Casey N Grinegan closing from a rail trip into third.

Owned by Donald Richardson, Bim Bam Boom won her first race from nine starts, earning $8,757. She paid $12.20 to win.

Race-favourite Hf Thegreatpumpkin wired his competition in the first prelim of the Alberta Snowshoe, posting a six-length victory in 1:58.1 at odds of 5-2.

Also trained by Harold Haining, the colt by Pang Shui cleared command from post seven while Hf Shadow Racer secured the pocket. Past a :28.3 first quarter, driver Michael Hennessy slowed the pace on the front to a :59.2 half while Kootenay Lager angled off the cones and raced uncovered rounding the second turn.

Kootenay Lager drew within a length of the lead by three-quarters in 1:28.3 but Hf Thegreatpumpkin soon spurted to a four-length lead into the stretch and widened to the wire ahead of Hf Shadow Racer in second and Kootenay Lager in third.

Winning his third race from 12 starts and earning $14,688, Hf Thegreatpumpkin races for owners Harold and Colleen Haining. He paid $7.20 to win.
