Kelseys Commando put the pedal to the metal and front-stepped her way to a convincing victory in Monday’s $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund Stake final two-year-old trotting fillies at Dover Downs.
In rein to Vic Kirby, Kelseys Commando fired off the gate from Post 7 and after parking past the quarter in :29.1 she eventually moved to the lead. She threw down middle panels of 1:00 and 1:30.1 before using a :30-second final quarter to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Way Over Paid, who was eventually placed third as a result of a late break. Overnight Hit was third-placed-second.
The daughter of CR Commando-Anastasia JA is a homebred owned by Pamela Wagner, Richard Lombardo and the JJ&M Stable. The victory was the third of the season for the rookie, who has hit the board in all seven of her first-year assignments. The lion’s share of the purse bumped the Gary Green trainee's cash stash to $129,210.
The DSBF scene shifts to the $100,000 colt and gelding trot final on the Tuesday program.
