With a first-over grind, Conboyville scored in the $27,200 Autumn Series Final at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, Nov. 24.
Sunshine N Shade shot to the lead with Mayor Mittcheese getting away second heading to a :28 first quarter. Driver Robert Shepherd then angled Conboyville first over approaching a :58 half and ranged towards Sunshine N Shade pacing to three-quarters in 1:26.2.
Conboyville loomed closer to Sunshine N Shade rounding the final turn and stuck a neck in front at the head of the stretch, extending to a length victory in 1:56.4. Sunshine N Shade settled for second with Nosportpunintended closing for third.
A three-year-old gelding by Dali, Conboyville completed a sweep of the Autumn Series while also winning his seventh race from nine starts this season and his eighth from 16 overall, earning $43,754. Isabelle Darveau trains the $3.70 winner for owners Duncan and Shirley Buist.
Racemup capitalized off a pocket trip to take the co-featured $11,500 Preferred 2 Handicap Pace in 1:54.
Big Mach N, the 3-5 favourite, took the lead with Racemup pushing from the pylon post into second heading to a :28 first quarter. Pretty Handsome pulled first over into a :57.3 half but only applied minor pressure to Big Mach N nearing three-quarters in 1:25.3. Into the stretch Big Mach N kept command until Racemup dashed out of the pocket and to a length-and-a-half victory. Pro Beach gave chase from third.
Returning $27.50 to win, Racemup won his ninth race from 36 starts this season and his 16th from 53 overall, earning $146,334. Vic Puddy trains the four-year-old Whatayasay gelding for owners Gordon Mc Donald and Christopher Boland. Nick Steward sat in the sulky.
Its Huw You Know withstood pressure through the whole mile to take the $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot going wire to wire in 1:59.1.
Heineken Seelster left for the lead alongside Its Huw You Know, who beat him to the cones rounding the first turn. The pair matched strides through early splits of :29 and :58.1 until Heineken Seelster tired and backtracked through the field heading to three-quarters. Its Huw You Know owned two lengths on his competition coming to three-quarters in 1:28.3 and strolled into the stretch under pursuit from Ionia closing for second with Kris Me Goodnight rallying from last for third.
Trained by Ashleigh Hensley and co-owned by driver Ed Hensley, Its Huw You Know won his seventh race from 38 starts this season and his 26th from 161 overall, earning $335,855. He paid $9.10 to win.
Bugsy Maguire bolted out of the pocket at the top of the stretch to take the $8,500 Preferred 3 Pace by a half length in 1:56.1.
Boomboom Ballykeel led the field through fractions of :27.2, :57 and 1:26.2 while under first-over pressure from Thorn In Your Side, who showed early speed from post 8 but could not secure a spot at the pylons. Thorn In Your Side faltered heading towards three-quarters while Bugsy Maguire angled from the pocket spinning into the stretch. The five-year-old Bettors Delight gelding dashed to the lead and held off a late charge from Lets Wait And See to win while Boomboom Ballykeel faded to third.
Owned by Walter Simmons, Bugsy Maguire won his ninth race from 35 starts this season and his 24th from 113 overall, earning $219,821. Austin Sorrie trains and drove the $7.10 winner.
