Goldies Rockin and Fearless Shelia took their respective $15,000 splits in the Pop Up Series for filly and mare pacers on Thursday (Nov. 23) evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Goldies Rockin posted the faster of the two times with a victory in 1:56.1.
James MacDonald and the Richard Moreau pupil took the early lead with St Lads Dark Angel (Jody Jamieson) on the outside of them at the quarter in :28.2. Goldies Rockin was briefly second as St Lads Dark Angel took command, but MacDonald put her right back on the front en route to the :57 half. Goldies Rockin drew away by four lengths at the 1:26.1 three-quarters before facing the pressure of a speeding Kickin Cowgirl (Louis-Philippe Roy) in the lane. Goldies Rockin fended off the charge from the favourite to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.1. Kickin Cowgirl landed in second and Share The Moment (Philippe Hudon) completed the top three.
Sylvain Cote and Robert Bernicky co-own the four-year-old Rockin Image mare for her fifth seasonal win and 11th career triumph. Goldies Rockin paid $5.00 to win as the 3-1 second choice.
In the second division, Fearless Shelia got away second to the quarter in :27.3 before she and Louis-Philippe Roy swept to the top. The pair kept on going through panels in :57.3 and 1:26 before meeting their challenge in the stretch. With a blanket finish at the wire, Fearless Shelia prevailed by a head in 1:56.3 over Royal Tell (Travis Cullen) in second and Jackie Davis (Daryl Thiessen) in third.
Brett Lester trains the daughter of Fear The Dragon as she earned her seventh win of the year and 12th career tally. Michel Letarte owns the four-year-old mare. She returned $2.70 to win for her third win in a row.
