The fifth annual Michiana Classic Yearling Sale and the 2021 Midwest Mixed Sale took place on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at the Michiana Event Center in Shipshewana, Indiana.
Tabasco Cat, Hip 82, was the yearling sale topper with a bid of $30,000 by Kim Roth, agent for Rock and Roll Stable of Crete, Illinois. Consigned by breeders Fred and Carolyn Shiery, the bay colt is by Tellitlikeitis out of the Artsplace mare Southwind Mocha. He is a half-brother to Southern Winds, a career winner of 34 races and $265,760.
A total of 98 yearlings were sold during the Michiana Classic Yearling Sale, grossing $891,200 for an average of $9,094, a 23.17 per cent increase compared to 2020. For complete sale results, click here.
Southwind Ritz, selling as Hip 288, was purchased for the top tag of $87,000 at the afternoon's mixed sale session by Jonas L. Slabach of Apple Creek, Ohio. Consigned by Winterwood Farm, acting as agent, the three-year-old Muscle Hill filly is out of the Yankee Glide mare Raising Roxanne, a full-sister to Grand Circuit stakes winner Raising Rachel ($627,856 - 1:54.1).
The Midwest Mixed Sale grossed $1,135,100 with 91 horses selling for an average of $12,474. For complete sale results, click here.
