It has been reported that the group behind the most recent proposal to build the one-mile Lawrence Downs harness raceway in Pennsylvania submitted the necessary documentation to the state gaming control board this past Friday (November 20).

An article by the New Castle News has quoted board spokesman Richard McGarvey as saying that “There’s not much that I (can) say except that we did receive the documents today.”

McGarvey stated that the board can now start the review process.

The report goes on to explain that the group – who is backed by an 88-year-old produce magnate, Joseph Procacci – now has six months to submit architectural plans, blueprints and a construction timeline to the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission. The article states that construction on the project has to begin within one year.

The proposed facility has been pegged as a $225-million undertaking. The track would be located off Route 422 in Mahoning, and the facility would feature Pennsylvania’ 14th and final casino.
