Franks Angel was perfect in the preliminary legs of the Autumn Series for two- and three-year-old Ontario-sired trotting colts and geldings at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and he made it a clean sweep by capturing Friday’s final.
With Jason Ryan at the lines barking out orders, Franks Angel marched to the top from Post 2 and successfully led the field through fractions of :29.2, 1:01.2 and 1:31.4 before using a :31-second final frame to win the $24,200 tilt in 2:02.4. It was three-quarters of a length back to the runner-up, LMC Hope, with third prize going to Post Stock.
Dr. Michael Venneri owns the two-year-old son of Archangel-First To The Front who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Dagfin Henriksen. The victory improved the homebred’s 2019 record to 4-1-1 from 13 starts and the lion’s share of the purse bumped his bankroll to $28,753.
