Churita, a five-year-old mare by Airzoom Lindy, dominated her male competitors to capture the $18,500 Open 'Turkey Trot' at Hollywood Dayton Raceway on Wednesday night.
The classy Indiana-based winner of 28 races was reunited with driver Trace Tetrick for her third effort in the past two months at Dayton and responded with her first Ohio win, an open lengths 1:54 triumph over Cantab Lindy (Tyler Smith) and Milfords Z Tam (Dan Noble).
Both Churita and Cantab Lindy left alertly with the winner finally seating the eventual runner-up just prior to the :27.3 opening quarter. Following a pedestrian stroll to the :57.1 halfway point, Tetrick upped the tempo to breeze past the three-quarters in 1:26 and cruise home to stop the clock in 1:54.
Matt Rheinheimer trains Churita for Porterproffesionalservice Stable. Her career bankroll rose to $762,460 with the victory.
Hollywood Dayton will be dark on Thanksgiving Thursday, but will resume racing with strong weekend cards on Friday and Saturday nights with 6:15 p.m. first race post times.
