One Big Cat kept his numerous challengers at bay to deliver a winning performance in the $35,000 B.C. stakes event for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings featured on Sunday afternoon at Fraser Downs.

Brandon Campbell fashioned a front-end victory aboard the J J J Stables' talented two-year-old, who rebuffed an early challenge from the parked out Bettors Mark through opening panels of :27.3 and :57.4. Down the backstretch, Credit Risk and then Its Eds Idea made wide-rallying moves, but posed no immediate threat to One Big Cat on the front through three-quarters in 1:27.1. Despite being swarmed by rivals on both sides down the homestretch, One Big Cat held on to win by half a length in 1:58.2 over the sloppy track. Imrunninonsunshine pulled the pocket down the stretch and Whatkindofchance came through in the passing lane while Duke It Out closed on the outside. Duke It Out was second over dead-heat third-place finishers Imrunninonsunshine and Whatkindofchance.

One Big Cat now has five wins in eight career starts and earnings totalling $59,823. Among his victories are three preliminary legs of the Robert Millbank Memorial Breeders Stakes. The Debra McCarthy-trained American Ideal colt came into the race off a third-place finish in the Millbank final 11 days ago and was the 7-5 favourite.
