Spitfire Oversees rode a sustained uncovered move in the slop to victory in Thursday’s feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a $18,028 conditioned trot.
Spitfire Oversees was fourth down the backside when Anthony MacDonald sent him after the leader, Windsong Patriot, who was unpressured to that point. It took him until the top of the lane to do it, but Spitfire Oversees subdued Windsong Patriot and went on to score in 1:55. The pocket-sitting Celebrity Bambino was second, beaten a length, while Windsong Patriot saved show.
Stacey Van Huizen trains the winner, a four-year-old International Moni-Legal Lady ridgling who boosted his career bankroll to nearly $345,000, for Thestable Spitfireovrsees.
Thursday’s card also brought unusual results in the second race, when 1-9 Bluebird Choir jumped it off, finished up the track and opened the door for longshots. One who stepped through was the 142-1 RT Wonder Pone. While she didn’t win for Kyle Bolon, she returned eye-popping mutuels: $437 to place and $182.20 to show.
Aaron Merriman led the drivers with three winners on the 13-race program.
Live harness racing at The Meadows continues on Friday, with first post at 12:45 p.m.
