Magnum Star Repeats In Harvest Series

Magnum Star continued his success in the Harvest Claiming Series Saturday night at Sudbury Downs with a win in his second leg $7,500 division

The five-year-old son of Astreos-Magnum Momma and driver Pascal Berube survived a first-over journey to prevail in 1:58.3 over a track rated good, by two lengths over pacesetter and fan favourite Mud Bog (Jay Polifroni). Cameo Morley (Paul Maclean) finish third off a pocket-trip while the other first leg winner Vlad Hanover (Mario Rivest) broke stride early on taking himself out of contention. Clayton Roderick Miller trains Firm Offer sat fourth at the rail for most of the mile before sprinting home in :29.2 for the 8-1 upset. Allamerican Laser (Paul MacLean) journeyed first-over to finish a half-length behind while even-money favourite Owhatabeachbum (Pascal Berube) rounded out the top three. The four-year-old son of Astreos-Skiponover picked up his fifth win in 28 seasonal starts with the 1:59.3 effort.

Saturday’s $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Pace went to the Allan Hohner-trained and driven Seawind Gambler, who earned his third consecutive win by a head in 1:59.2. Rush Rules (Gerry Belanger) was the runner-up with favourite Round About Fame (Justin Turcotte) coming in third.

The six-year-old Astreos-Hey Girl gelding notched his eighth win in 25 starts this year and lifted his earnings to over $58,928 for owners David Haney of Waterloo and Lawrence Smith of Elmira, Ont. He now sports 19 wins and $224,982 in earnings on his career record.
