Fix A Drink doubled up in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway, taking a new season's mark of 1:55.3 with another front-stepping score on Thursday, Nov. 2.

Assigned the outside post after his wire-to-wire romp a week ago, Fix A Drink and driver Jimmy Gagnon topped Thursday's compact field of five -- with one early breaker -- as he forged ahead of the quick-leaving Duke Lavictoire (Pascal Berube) into a :28.2 opening quarter.

After a second quarter breather to the half in :58, he had company coming down the backside in the form of slightly favoured Crossfit (Guy Gagnon). Seeking to make amends for his miscue as the bettors' choice last week, that rival pressed the pace to three-quarters in 1:26.2 but Fix A Drink kept him at bay through the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length. Duke Lavictoire followed 3-1/2 lengths behind in third.

Fix A Drink, who has won four of his last six starts competing at the Preferred level, paid $4.90 to win as a 7-5 co-favourite on the board.

The victory was his sixth overall this year from 20 starts competing for trainer Pierre Leclerc, who shares ownership of the six-year-old Angus Hall gelding with breeder Shaun Baines.
