Tyrone Bow Tie tallied his first win of the month in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway with a confident front-end drive from Pascal Berube on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
Tyrone Bow Tie left sharply from post five and was engaged by Rose Run Why Not (Marie-Claude Auger) on the first turn but stiff-armed that rival into the pocket to secure control. The gelding trotted early fractions of :28.2 and :58 over the track listed as good, pressed by the first-over Southwind Russian (Stephane Pouliot) from before the midway point through three-quarters in 1:27.2. Despite racing outside the whole way after an early break, that gelding had the most trot of the two in the lane, but Tyrone Bow Tie held on by a neck for the 1:57.2 victory. Southwind Russian came home second but was placed fourth for interference early in the mile. Pilot Heir (William Roy) improved to second and Rose Run Why Not was promoted to third.
Tyrone Bow Tie has now racked up 12 wins in the Rideau Preferred Trot this year for trainer Mike Armstrong and owners Rachel Burns, Wade Tousignant, and Phil Tousignant, all of Cardinal, Ont. The five-year-old Lookslikeachpndale-Risk Seeker gelding has won 17 times and earned $143,141 in 61 lifetime outings. He paid $4.40 to win.
Leading driver Guy Gagnon won half of the evening’s 10 races, starting in the opener with Windsun Duke ($2.30), who won his second straight race for trainer Jacob Copley. Gagnon then won the third with a dominant Tie Game ($4.90) for trainer John MacMillan, the fourth with Century Lexus ($2.60) from the barn of leading trainer Mandy Archer, the seventh with Wastingnotime ($12.10) for Alain Martin, and the ninth with Wellworththewait ($2.50) for Brian Scott. Gagnon now has 207 wins on the year in 634 starts, a win rate of 32.6 per cent, and he is on pace for his best season in wins and earnings since 2011.
