Ageless wonder Music To My Gears continues to operate like a well-oiled machine, with 21 victories from 40 starts in his age-13 season. The gelding made it five consecutive wins with a comfortable score in a claiming event on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Flamboro Downs.
After defending inside positioning to lead to the :28.2 quarter, Daryl Thiessen rated him to a soft half of :58.4 before the appearance of Livin Large (Travis Cullen) first-over necessitated a tempo increase. Those two threw down past three-quarters in 1:27.2, but Music To My Gears repelled Livin Large on the final turn and glided home under wraps to a 1:56 victory. Livin Large finished second, beaten 3-1/4 lengths, followed by Hestonator (Samuel Fillion).
Music To My Gears is now tied for the most wins in North America this season with On To Norway — whose 21 wins came in consecutive fashion. He recorded his 42nd career victory in 169 starts and bumped up his earnings to $211,801. Ken Middleton of Cambridge, Ont. trains the son of Rocknroll Hanover-Changing Gears and co-owns him with Keith Middleton of Cambridge, Jeff Seibel of Elmira, Ont., and James Grant of Sarnia, Ont. The gelding paid $2.40 at the windows.
