A training triple by Jennifer Doyle had the Earnscliffe, P.E.I. horsewoman fall one win shy of Phil Sizer for top training honours as the final program of the season was cut short on a gusty night while driver David Dowling set an all-time record at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The season finale was cut short after race six of the 11-dash program on a wet, blustery night when high winds damaged the wings of the starting gate making continuation of the program impossible.
In the race one Brocks Fortune Retirement Pace, Sunseeker prevailed in 2:03.1 over a track rated five seconds off for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Ron Matheson.
The Red Shores Pace went to Brookdale Thomas in 2:03.3, sealing the deal for trainer Phil Sizer in the training standings, as the All Bets Off three-year-old propelled his trainer to 17 wins on the season.
Sporty Spice went all the way in the Wendell Wallace Memorial in race five with a 2:05.3 clocking for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Sylvia Hall Andrews.
The other three dashes on the card were claimed by trainer Jennifer Doyle as driver David Dowling tripled up with Winter Blast (2:03), Woodmere Kennedie (2:01) and Elm Grove Mistress (2:00.3) to leave Doyle tied with Kyle Williams in second place amongst trainers with 16 victories.
Dowling easily won the leading driver honours of the year at Red Shores Summerside as he made 65 trips to the winner’s circle at the Prince County oval, with MacPherson second at 44 wins and Murphy third with 32 driving scores. Dowling’s 65-win season is the all-time record for dash wins in the 138-year history of Red Shores Summerside, surpassing the former record of 61 victories set by MacPherson in 2023. The record performance was part of Dowling’s third driving title at Red Shores Summerside following his season topping scores in 2018 and 2019.
