While explaining their proposed plans for expanding gambling in the state, officials from Millennium Gaming wined and dined local politicians last night at New Hampshire's Exeter Inn during an invitation-only get together
.
According to a report by the Fosters Daily Democrat, company co-owner Bill Wortman agreed that, naturally, there are already citizens of the state with problem gambling issues, but, ironically enough, the introduction of expanded gambling would in fact aid in curbing the problem. "And today there's zero money to help deal with that (problem gambling issues)," Wortman was quoted as saying. "They're going to Foxwoods ... they're going to the convenience store ... they're going on the internet."
The report states that under the Millennium Gaming plan, $8.4 million in gaming revenue taken in by the state would be funneled towards social services, which includes addiction counseling.
Even throughout the economic downturn, officials from Millennium Gaming have remained steadfast in their desire to spend $450 million at Rockingham Park in order to revamp the facility in multiple ways and introduce 5,000 video lottery terminals.
