Two of the top three-year-old trotting colts in North American harness racing this year will be standing stud for the 2023 breeding season.
Both King Of The North (pictured above) and Temporal Hanover will stand in North America in 2023.
Walner is the leading two-year-old sire in North America. He has 65 starters in 2022 that have earned more than $4 million. And his sire, Chapter Seven, is second on that list.
Both Walner and Chapter Seven are also #1 and #2 respectively as the leading sire of three-year-old trotters in North America. Walner leads the way with $6.5 million and Chapter Seven is second at $6.2 million.
"Once King Of The North ends his racing season in the TVG Series at the Meadowlands on November 26, they will both go to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky and will have fertility evaluations done by Dr. Charles Scoggin," stated Ohio's Dean Miller, who is handling the two horses. "We have a number of breeding farms in North America that have shown great interest in standing either of the two colts and once their evaluations are complete, we will have an announcement on where they will be standing stud in 2023."
King Of The North 3, 1:50.3 ($1,370,242) is by Walner from the Donato Hanover world champion mare, Check Me Out, who was both the Dan Patch and O’Brien Award winning filly at age two and three.
The 2021 Dan Patch Two-Year-Old Trotting Colt of the Year, King Of The North has won three of his last four starts this season, including the 2022 Breeders Crown where he took his lifetime mark of 1:50.3. That was the fastest mile ever by a three-year-old in the history of the Breeders Crown, it was also the fastest Canadian mile ever by a colt and a Woodbine Mohawk Park track record. He also has won the $200,000 Carl Erskine Memorial at Hoosier Park and his Breeders Crown elimination division.
King Of The North is also a leading contender for three-year-old trotting colt of the year honours.
Temporal Hanover 3, 1:52.2 ($991,847) is also sired by Walner from the Cantab Hall mare, Think Twice.
So far in 2022, Temporal Hanover has four wins, six seconds and one third place finish in 13 starts. He was victorious in the $310,000 Zweig Memorial and the $300,000 Earl Beal, Jr. Memorial.
He was also second in the $430,000 Kentucky Futurity, the $275,000 NJ Classic, the $240,000 NJSS Final, the $125,000 Stanley Dancer, the $118,500 Bluegrass Stakes, the $100,000 Hambletonian elimination and was third in the $1 million Hambletonian Final.
“The possibilities for these two great stallion prospects are very exciting,” Miller said.
