Three-year-old pacing filly Dazzling Rockette went from last to first in Wednesday evening's featured $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace at Flamboro Downs.
Riding a three-race win streak entering the race that included a pair of victories on the Woodbine Entertainment Group circuit, Dazzling Rockette was the overwhelming 1-2 favourite.
The Richard Moreau trainee trailed the six-horse field early on though before catching the cover of After Alimony then rallying three-wide down the backstretch and surging past pacesetter Pictonian Sareta (:28.2, :58, 1:27.1) into the final turn. Down the homestretch, Dazzling Rockette held off the late-closing longshot, Miss Machqueen, to prevail by a quarter-length in 1:56.1. Regal Luck finished four and a half lengths back in third.
Dazzling Rockette paid $3.10 to win. The Rocknroll Hanover filly is owned by La Ferme Drummond Inc. of Saint-Hugues, Que.
The victory brought Flamboro Downs' season-leading driver Billy Davis Jr. closer to a career milestone. Davis, who sits fifth in the nation-wide driver standings with 250 wins this year, is now just one win away from his 2,000th lifetime.
