'Spartan' Victorious Again In Preferred

Spartan Victory earned his second consecutive victory in the $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot in wire-to-wire fashion on Sunday night at Flamboro Downs.

Spartan Victory went unchallenged through fractions of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:28.1 and trotted home in :29.3 to win by three lengths in 1:57.4. He paid $6.50 to win as the 2-1 second choice on the betting board. Cimeronken followed in second off a pocket trip while 4-5 favourite Lexis D J, a runner-up to Spartan Victory last week, moved into the top three past the half-mile mark and remained third despite baring out in the stretch.

Ryan Holliday drove the winning Hard Rock N Roll gelding for owner/trainer Brad Pittock of London, Ont. Spartan Victory now boasts eight victories in 22 starts during his eight-year-old campaign and $47,725 in purse earnings.

Mister X also fashioned a front-end victory in the $7,500 Preferred 3 Pace with Bob McClure in the sulky. The four-year-old gelded son of Mister Big was a 1:55.4 winner for trainer Ken Oliver and owners Shirley and Kerry House of St. Jacobs and Kimberly Inglis of Brampton, Ont. He paid $9.30 to win as the 7-2 second favourite. Sir Machalot and Ufdragons Rocket finished second and third, respectively.
