Hey Hey Mama defeated four rivals and cruised to a 1:51 victory in the $39,437 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway on Thursday, Nov. 13.
Hey Hey Mama took the early lead for Luke Hanners and controlled the fractions of :28.3 and :57, and used a :54 final half to prevent any real challenge. The five-year-old Downbytheseaside-Rolluptherim mare motored through three-quarters in 1:24 and defeated her stablemate, pocket-sitter Foxy Hill (Tyler Smith), by 1-1/4 lengths. Fearless Ginger (Chris Page) completed the triactor.
The winner is co-owned by Odds On Racing and Virgil Morgan Jr., who trains the mare. Hey Hey Mama tallied her 18th win in 66 career starts. She paid $3.20 to win.
In the $25,352 conditioned claiming pace for fillies and mares, Cinamontoastcrunch got a perfect pocket trip from Sam Widger and sprung an 11-1 upset. Real Star struck first for Trevor Smith from post five, parking the heavily favoured Lady Cafe Au Lait (Chris Page) through fractions of :27, :56 and 1:24. Lady Cafe Au Lait couldn’t get past the leader and faded to fifth down the lane, while Cinamontoastcrunch popped the pocket, forged to the lead, and held off a closing Plays In The Shade (Cameron McCown) by a half-length in 1:53.1. Real Star was third.
Cinamontoastcrunch, who paid $25.80 to win, is a sophomore daughter of Captain Crunch-Love At First Bite. She is owned by of Ervin Miller Stable Inc., Douglas Overhiser, and Levi Bontrager. Erv Miller trains the 13-time winner from 36 starts.
Driver Luke Hanners had a big day with four wins on the 14-race card.
Dayton Raceway will host another slate of 14 races on Friday, Nov. 14, beginning at 4 p.m.
