Marielle Enberg and Emotions Durables gradually reeled in tempo-setter Talbot Eh Plus to claim victory in the $5,500 Racing Under Saddle (RUS) event at Flamboro Downs on Saturday (Nov. 14).
Talbot Eh Plus scooted to a four-and-a-half length lead moving to a :28.3 opening quarter with Emotions Durables racing second in a field strung out by 15 lengths. The leader continued unchallenged past a :59.2 half but gradually saw her lead diminish heading to three-quarters. Emotions Durables slid to race alongside Talbot Eh Plus past three-quarters in 1:30.2 and took a narrow lead into the final turn. From there the three-year-old Wheeling N Dealin filly downed the tiring leader by three-quarter lengths in a 2:02.3 mile. Waikiki Hanover, chasing the top two throughout, finished third another four lengths behind with Massive Muscles close in fourth.
Owned and trained by Cassandra Lecourt, Emotions Durables won her second race from 13 starts this season and her sixth from 21 overall, earning $61,947. She paid $11.90 to win in the final RUS event of the 2020 season.
“We had a slow start to the year with COVID slowing our qualifiers but are happy with the results,” said Pam Forgie, president of Racing Under Saddle Ontario. “Next year we are hoping for some more new riders and an earlier start due to current rider qualifying rule changes. As president of RUS Ontario I want to thank all trainers, owners and riders that participated this year and looking forward to next year.”
