Garry MacDonald's Jack Of Clubs ($17.30) circled off live third-over cover to reel in odds-on favourite Machlicious in Wednesday's $8,400 top-level conditioned pace on a sub-freezing Wednesday evening (Nov. 14) at Flamboro Downs.
Tyler Moore angled the four-year-old World Of Rocknroll gelding off the pegs from last nearing a :57.3 half controlled by early pacesetter Monty Mono (J Harris). Soon after, Jack Of Clubs wound up third-over behind the live cover of Machlicious (Scott Young), who angled out from third and worked into the lead through three-quarters in 1:27.1.
While Machlicious was urged to overpower Monty Mono, but gained two lengths of separation midway into the final turn. Turning for home, Moore angled Jack Of Clubs three-wide off live flow, and he accelerated toward the eighth win of his career, stopping the timer in 1:57.2. Runner-up Machlicious was beaten by half a length, while Maximus Power (Travis Henry) circled from astern for third.
Of the 10 horses sent to post as betting favourites — four of them odds-on, none were victorious on the Wednesday card.
