To say that pacer Pauly Wally has had a bounce back season would be a gross understatement.
After toiling through an 0-for-16 campaign in 2016, the four-year-old son of Shadow Play-Armbro Brio has answered with an 11-for-16 record this year for trainer Dean Nixon.
Pauly Wally joined Nixon’s barn earlier this spring, and after an inauspicious debut for the new outfit on March 27 the pacer has been a winning machine ever since.
Bob McClure mapped out Monday’s come-from-behind score with the photogenic performer, who wound up being a popular winner once again. McClure was sixth at the quarter before moving him into the flow and sitting fifth at the half in the Monday assignment. Third and parked without cover at the three-quarter pole in 1:23.4 was the trip scenario Pauly Wally was forced to deal with, and he made the most of it thanks to his :28.1 closing speed. It was good enough to earn him the win by 2-1/4 lengths over Osborne Seelster in 1:52.2. Cinnabar Dragon was third.
Tony Basile of Toronto and Andy Atlas of Whitby share ownership on the hard-hitting pacer who pushed his lifetime earnings over $75,000 with the win.
