The Champion Series final was held on Saturday night at Sudbury Downs with Lance Hall going wire-to-wire to take the lion’s share of the $33,000 purse. The series is for trotters that are non-winners of $75,000 in 2010.

Fresh off a victory in the second leg of the series, Lance Hall and trainer-driver Richard Baker fired off the gate from Post 8 and carved out fractions of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:29.1 en route to a two-length victory in 1:59.4. Sos Breezer (Richard Turcotte) came on for second but was placed back to eighth for causing early interference to his fellow trotters. Wawa (Paul MacLean) inherited second and Suzys Solitaire (David Haney), a first and second leg winner, inherited third as a result of the judges’ placing.

Lance Hall paid $14.10 for the 6-1 upset. The victory was his 10th in 30 seasonal starts and pushed his earnings to $69,322 for owners Peter Dickey of Innisfil and Leo Baker of Keswick, Ont. Lifetime, the seven-year-old gelded son of Angus Hall-Hariclu has recorded 22 wins while banking $308,745.
