Kennel Buddy went from last to first to win the $7,500 Preferred 3 Trot featured at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Friday night.
Kennel Buddy and driver Paul MacKenzie trailed the field of seven early on before advancing first over to reel in 3-2 favourite Little Red Chev, who had crossed to command from the outside post position and carved out fractions of :28.3, :59.1 and 1:29.1. Kennel Buddy struck the front in the final turn and drew clear down the stretch to win by one and a half lengths in 2:00.1 over the track rated "good" with a two second variant. Brandons Cs closed well to finish second over Little Red Chev.
The win was Kennel Buddy's 11th from 33 starts and the lion's share of the purse pushed his seasonal bankroll to $57,712 for owner Allan Neal of Grand Bend, Ont. David Dowling trains the five-year-old gelded son of Ken Warkentin.
