Three-year-old pacing fillies April Dawns Star and Windemere Nancy shared the spotlight on Saturday afternoon at Charlottetown Driving Park with winning performances in their respective $12,300 Gold Lady Slipper Stakes divisions.

Driven by Mike Stevenson, April Dawns Star turned back first over challenger First Lady Of Art en route to winning the first Gold division in 2:01.3. Earl Watts trains the Astronomical-Art Blanche filly, who won an earlier Gold division on Aug. 17 at CDP, for the Painting The Town Stable of Quispamsis, N.B.

The $7,800 Grassroots champions were the Jack Panting-conditioned Ms Thelma (2:01.3) and Watts trainee Independent Gal (2:01.2), both winning their respective divisions by nine lengths.

In regular racing action, Waiting On A Woman won this week's $1,800 Open Handicap Trot by 11 lengths in 2:02.1 for driver Brodie MacPhee and co-owners Mitchell and David Tierney of Cornwall, P.E.I. The victory was his fifth in a row.
