Trainer Trish Adams had a big night at The Meadowlands Saturday, winning three times on the card, including the $17,000 high-end conditioned pacing feature with A Major Omen.
The four-year-old gelded son of Art Major-Omen Hanover has been on a roll of late, with victories in three of his last four starts. He’s been winning despite continuing to face better stock every week, as his current streak started with a victory at the non-winners of $4,500 level, before a second-place finish with non-winners of $7,500.
Last week, he established a lifetime-best of 1:50.2 during a powerful win with non-winners of $10,500, then lowered that time by a full second when he stopped the clock Saturday in 1:49.2 facing non-winners of $20,000.
Driver Corey Callahan had A Major Omen away from the gate alertly and had the lead at the quarter in :27.1. Angers Bayama, the 3-5 favourite, took the top at the three-eighths and driver Vinny Ginsburg was able to rate the middle half in :55.3 while getting some separation from the eventual winner, opening up a two-and-a-half-length edge with three-sixteenths to go.
A Major Omen was out of the pocket at the eighth pole, and with some energetic coaxing from Callahan, gunned down a tiring Angers Bayama nearing the wire to record a three-quarter-length win. Lyons Steel was third.
Owned by Thomas J. Maloney, A Major Omen returned $14.80 as the second choice in the wagering and now has seven wins from 41 career starts, good for earnings of $88,421.
McCARTHY WINS FIVE: Driver Todd McCarthy was on fire all night long, winning five races on the program.
Those who bet the 27-year-old recent Australian import had a big night. McCarthy had 12 drives on the card, and if one had wagered $20 on each, they would have walked away with a profit of $458.
SMOOTH AS GLASS: Shattered Glass took the Fall Harvest Series Final in 1:51.4, giving the Allie Reynolds trainee two straight easy scores, winning by 2 lengths seven days after scoring by 9.
The five-year-old gelded son of Delmarvalous-Nikajah returned $3.00 as the heavy favorite and was driven by McCarthy.
A LITTLE MORE: The 20-cent Pick-6 went unhit for a second straight night, meaning that when racing resumes there will be a carryover of $13,394 that will not be subject to an already low 15 percent takeout.
Leading driver Simon Allard had a driving double, giving him six victories over the weekend to up his win tally at the Fall Meeting to 26.
All-source wagering totaled $2,102,046.
