DBSF Freshman Trot Stakes Begin

Four $20,000 divisions of the first leg of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) stake events for two-year-old trotters were held Tuesday at Harrington Raceway.

The filly divisions were won by William Moffett’s Country Romance (Jon Roberts, 2:03.4) and Pam Wagner’s JA Going Alltheway (Victor Kirby, 2:04.4). Both races were held as early non-wagering events.

Country Romance, a daughter of Giant Hit, notched her third win in four career starts for owner/trainer Moffett while John Wagner trained JA Going Alltheway (by CR Commando) won her first career race after two successful qualifiers.

Art Stafford and Art Stafford Jr.’s Royal Briefing ($106.20, Art Stafford Jr.) scored a major upset in the first colt division after out-kicking second choice and pacesetter Dingys Boy in the stretch in 2:03.2. The Political Briefing gelding was making his third career start after two baby races.

Stop The Jade Farm’s Bellas Spunkypunk (Corey Callahan, $7.20) took the second division in the same fashion in 2:05.2. The Super Punk gelding, was the recipient of a pocket trip and charged by pacesetter Cashmere Briefs for the win. Trained by Aaron Lambert, it was the first career start for 'Spunkypunk.'

In the overnight feature, Allen Kaplan, Ira Kaplan and David Schieb’s Lorrie Please ($9.20, Roberts) was a wire-to-wire winner in the $22,000 Filly & Mare Open in 1:53.3. Trained by Mike Hall, it was one of four driving wins for Roberts.

Ross Wolfenden had three wins.
