Stagger Lee Wins Saskatchewan Stake

Trainer-driver Brian Gray worked out a perfect pocket trip aboard Stagger Lee to capture the $6,000 Saskatchewan Standardbred Stake at Marquis Downs on Friday

Five-year-old pacing mare Stagger Lee followed Power Maid (Brad LeDrew) through fractions of :28.1, 1:00.2 and 1:30 before taking control in the stretch and kicking away by three and three-quarter lengths for 2:00.2 victory. Marlowe (Glenn LeDrew) came in second but was placed back to fourth after causing interfernce to Jomars Tami (Tyler Redwood) in the stretch. Power Maid and Jomars Tami inherited second and third as a result of the placing.

Stagger Lee ($4.20) notched her third consecutive win and 10th of the season in 23 starts. Her $3,000 pay day pushed her earnings to over $12,000 for 2010 and over $27,000 lifetime for owner Levi Morin of Yorkton, Sask.

In other action, an accident involving two horses occurred in Friday's finale. Camstellation, driven by Glenn LeDrew, and Barona Galaxy, driven by Clayton Braybrook, fell in the stretch. Trot Insider will provide an update on the condition of the drivers and horses when made available.
