Forrest Bartlett’s Primo Maschio ($2.10) improved to eight-for-eight in his young career with a 1:54.1 win in the $148,649 Delaware Standardbred Breeders (DSBF) Stakes final for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings on Monday, Oct. 7 at Harrington Raceway.
Driven by Trae Porter, the Badlands Hanover gelding went right to the front from post six and never looked back in his wire-to-wire triumph over Shore Not Beach and Lew Not Lou. Trained by Kevin Lare, Primo Maschio has banked nearly $150,000 lifetime.
On the undercard, Andrew Glassmeyer’s Sweet Angel Boy ($5) was a 1:51.4 winner in the $67,568 Bobby Quillen Memorial. Trained by his owner and driven by Tony Morgan, the six-year-old Sweet Lou gelding emerged from the pocket a half-length winner over Mack and Ats Hanover. Sweet Angel Boy also won the $67,568 Governor’s Cup earlier in the year at Harrington.
Quillen was a popular local legislator who loved harness racing and was on the Board of Directors at Harrington Raceway and the Delaware State Fair, who passed away in 2004.
Art Stafford Jr. had four wins on the card. Allan Davis, Montrell Teague and Bart Dalious each had a driving double.
The two-year-old pacing fillies will compete in a $110,000 USD DSBF final, which headlines the Tuesday, Oct. 8 card in addition to the $50,000 USD Kathleen Cain Pace. On Wednesday, Oct. 9, a pair of DSBF finals will be contested for two-year-old trotters, while the $50,000 USD Allen Cook Memorial awaits on the undercard for older trotters.
Live harness racing will continue on a Monday through Wednesday schedule until Oct. 23 with post time at 4:30 p.m.
