Style For A Mile Brings The Second-Session Bucks

The Captaintreacherous filly Style For A Mile carried the largest price through the ring towards the later half of the second session at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale Tuesday (Oct. 6).

Style For A Mile (Hip 277) is the third foal from the Western Ideal mare Injeanous Style. Her second dam, Art Account, foaled three six-figure earners including Bigtown Hero ($486,142, 1:47.3f), Thats The Ticket ($268,521, BT1:51.2) and Hurrikane Jon Paul ($254,966, BT1:51.2). Kentuckiana Farms consigned the yearling who sold for $225,000 to Dana Parham.

A bit later in the catalogue, Max Contract (Hip 288) became the second sale’s leader of the night when selling for $200,000 to Andy Miller Stable Inc. She became the second-highest purchase from the first crop of Huntsville, the highest coming in the first session with Kissinyougoodbye (out of Yagonnakissmeornot, selling for $250,000). This Cameo Hill Farms-consigned filly is out of the McArdle mare Big McDeal ($818,544, BT1:49s) and is a half sister to Im A Big Deal ($304,754, BT1:48.4).

With only three yearlings to go on the evening, the Chapter Seven-Mrs Frank colt Zappa sold for $200,000 to Marcus Melander. Consigned by Allamerican Harnessbreds, the colt is the first foal from Mrs Frank, who is a half sister to Strong Yankee ($1,434,351, 1:50.3) and Yankee Slide ($300,174, 1:54.2f).

Earlier in the session two yearlings tied for third-highest purchase, each going for $190,000. The Walner-Smexi colt Clenched Fist (Hip 164) sold to Andy Miller Stable Inc., then the Muscle Hill-Ava Marion colt Muscle Mavarick (Hip 225) later sold to William J. Donovan. Kentuckiana Farms consigned Clenched Fist, the second foal from Smexi, while Preferred Equine consigned Muscle Mavarick, a half sister to Lucky Ava ($391,777, BT1:53).

Sweet Omen (Hip 141) served as the first six-figure purchase of the session and finished the fifth-highest sale at $185,000. The Northwood Bloodstock Agency Inc.-consigned Sweet Lou filly is the third foal from millionaire Omen Hanover and a half sister to Someomensomewhere ($527,739, BT1:51). Yankeeland Partners LLP acquired the filly.

In total, 181 yearlings went through the ring in the second session, grossing $11,171,000 and an average sale price of $61,718. The figures fell compared to last year’s second session, which sold 174 for a gross $13,068,000 (down 16.9%) and an average of $75,103 (down 21.7%). Cumulatively, 299 yearlings have sold through the two sessions for a gross $26,408,000 and an average of $88,321. Last year (through session 2), 292 yearlings sold for a gross $31,274,000 and an average of $114,696.
