Paul Mac Donald trainee Dustylanekazaam rode the rail and rallied late to a neck victory in the $5,000 Atlantic Sires Stakes (ATSS) Consolation for three-year-old colt and gelding pacers on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Charlottetown Driving Park.
Driver Corey MacPherson put Dustylanekazaam into third behind Easy Flyer on the lead and Thegreatmaelstrom leaving from post seven into the pocket. By the :28.3 opening quarter, Easy Flyer faced pressure from Blackriver Ripper heading by a :58.1 half but kept him parked through three-quarters in 1:27.3. The outer flow lost ground into the stretch as Easy Flyer continued to lead before Dustylanekazaam swept to control in the final strides to win at 11-1. Thegreatmaelstrom took third and Saulsbrook Brave, closing at the inside, finished fourth.
A colt by Westwardho Hanover, Dustylanekazaam won his third race from nine starts this season and his fifth from 30 overall, earning $12,106 for owner Jonathan Mac Donald. He paid $25.10 to win.
Sent the 7-5 favourite, Miss Dynamite D took the ATSS Consolation for two-year-old filly pacers going wire to wire in 2:00.1.
The daughter of Image Of Dawn took control prior to a :29.2 opening quarter. Arc Light, parked from fifth at the quarter, drew alongside the tempo-setter as the pace slowed to the half, timed in :59.1, and stalled wide of the leader passing three-quarters in 1:28.4. Miss Dynamite D turned into the stretch under pursuit from Cheeky Cherry, off a rail trip, flying to finish second by a nose and Woodmere Oleksiak, from second over, another slim margin back in third.
Owned by Colin William Macleod and Maria Macleod, Miss Dynamite D won her fifth race from 11 starts, earning $10,111. Redmond Doucet drove the Robert Mac Leod trainee and paid $4.70 to win.
Purple Poet cleared command from post eight and won the $5,000 ATSS Consolation for two-year-old colt and gelding pacers going wire to wire in 1:58.3. The Robert Phillips-trained colt by Stonebridge Terror faced minimal pressure on the front as he posted fractions of :29.2, :59 and 1:29.1. Purple Poet widened his lead into the stretch, winning by four lengths over pocket-sitter Fern Hill Dynamic and J Ks Boy another five lengths back in third.
Owned by Kevin Harvey, Purple Poet won his third race from 10 starts, earning $14,369. He paid $2.70 to win.
Silverhill Misty stalked pacesetter Cherry Pop and overtook her in the stretch to win the $5,000 ATSS Consolation for three-year-old filly pacers in 1:57.4. Trained and driven by Jason Hughes, the filly by Proven Lover sat behind a pace duel between Cherry Pop and Elm Grove Maddy parked by a failed-leave attempt from post seven. Sitting off splits of :29.2, :59 and 1:28.2, Silverhill Misty vacated the pocket into the stretch and extended to a one-and-three-quarter length win over odds-on favourite Cherry Pop in second. Windemereimalright, riding the rail, finished five lengths farther back in third.
Winning her second race in 16 starts this season and her fifth in 25 overall, Silverhill Misty races for Kurt Hughes and has earned $24,395. She paid $7.10 to win.
