Being the longest shot on the board meant nothing to Varadero Hanover as he upset the Sunday afternoon (Oct. 6) featured pace at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Taking a perfect two-hole ride in the $2,600 top class, Ken Murphy drove by in the stretch to win with Varadero Hanover at 13-1 in 1:56.2. Jeff Wallace trains the nine-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere for owner Bobby Gordon. Mando Fun was second and Nogreatmischief circled to finish third.
Dusty Lane Cortez delivered as the favourite in the Isabelle and Ivan Cameron Memorial Pace with a 1:58.1 mile for driver David Dowling and trainer Devon Wallace.
The Leon Stewart Memorial saw O Christopher win in 2:01.2 with Norris Rogers in the bike for trainer Lester Stewart.
The Cecil Stewart Memorial had Myambrose supply a mild upset in 1:59.4 for driver Murphy and trainer Carl MacDougall while the Lester Chappell Memorial had Badlands Giovanna prevail from post 8 in line to Jason Hughes for owner Stephen Sweet.
JJ Powerball was an open-length winner in the Bob MacInnis Memorial Pace for the combination of driver Myles Heffernan Sr., and trainer Wade Sorrie. Time of the mile was 1:56.3.
Gilles Barrieau had a driving triple on the program winning the opener with Still Owing (2:02.1) for trainer Ambyr Campbell of Charlottetown, Souverain in 1:56.2 for trainer Phil Sizer of Kensington and with Disneyman in 1:59.4 from his own stable.
