Rookies Rumble In Indiana Sires Stakes

The Hoosier state’s freshmen trotters and pacers were the featured attraction at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Friday as the evening’s 14-race card was highlighted by three $75,000 Indiana Sires Stakes finals.

It was the fifth and final round of the $75,000 preliminary Indiana Sires Stakes finals for the two-year-old competitors.

The evening’s action kicked-off with the two-year-old pacing colts and it was Egomania who continued his winning ways to sweep the final round of the stakes action with a win in the $75,000 Indiana Sires Stakes final for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings. Scoring in 1:51.4 over a track rated good, Egomania went wide around the last turn but recovered well to get the win by a neck over a hard-charging Frontier Telephras and Lewayne Miller.

As the public’s second choice, Egomania returned $9.20 to his backers at the betting windows.

With the win, the son of Always A Virgin-Has An Attitude notched his fourth win from 10 seasonal outings. Trained by Shane Bowermaster, Egomania sent his lifetime purse earnings over the $100,000 mark with the win for his connections of Country Club Acres, J. Sbrocco, R. Lombardo, and J. Fodera. The 1:51.4 clocking also equalled his lifetime mark established earlier this season in stakes action at Hoosier Park.

The two-year-old trotting fillies were up next and it was Kissesforall who turned in her own gritty performance to get the win in the $75,000 Indiana Sires Stakes Final. With trainer Verlin Yoder handling the driving duties, Kissesforall was able to overcome a tough, first-over trip to track down the pacesetting Measuredperfection and Ricky Macomber, Jr. late in the lane to score in 1:56.1. Yoder also co-owns the filly with Eleven Star Stables.

Sent off as the 8-5 favourite, Kissesforall returned $5.20 at the betting windows.

With the win, the daughter of Swan For All-Deliteful Debbie recorded her second consecutive victory and fourth win of the season from 11 trips behind the gate. Kissesforall has now amassed $94,300 in lifetime purse earnings.

The biggest upset of the evening was found in the final division of the stakes action as Pansys Image and Peter Wrenn pulled the 40-1 upset in the $75,000 Indiana Sires Stakes final for two-year-old pacing fillies. Sent off as the second longest shot on the board, Pansys Image was uninvolved through the early stages of the race but found late racing room to track down her heavily favoured stablemate, Glorious Virgin and Trace Tetrick, to get the win by nearly two lengths. Stopping the timer in 1:52.1, Pansys Image established a new lifetime best and gave trainer Shane Bowermaster a training double on the evening’s 14-race card.

Pansys Image lit up the tote board and returned $82.80 to her backers.

The homebred daughter of Rockin Image-Pantidepressant has now won four of nine lifetime outings while pushing her career bankroll to $74,050. Pansys Image is owned by Emerald Highlands Farm.

With the wins, each of the stakes winners solidified their spots in the $220,000 Indiana Sires Stakes Super Finals slated for October 12 at Hoosier Park. With purses in excess of $2 million, the Indiana Sires Stakes Super Finals night has been tabbed as “Hoosier Champions Night” and will serve as the richest night of racing offered this season featuring eight $220,000 finals. Four $50,000 finals for the aged competitors will also compliment the evening’s program.
