The only major threat to 2-5 favourite Tajmeallover turned out to be her 25-1 little sister Watch My Luck, but the popular Marjorie Dumont trainee prevailed in a photo finish to extend her win streak to six in Friday night's $9,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Northlands Park.
Lissoy (Phil Giesbrecht) drove on from post four into the first turn to clear insider starter Nighttraintovegas (Mike Hennessy) during a :28.3 opening quarter, with Watch My Luck (Nathan Sobey) following in third. After an uneventful second panel, the field of six checked in at the half in :57.2.
From there, Divas Dragonfly (Jamie Gray) tipped out from fourth with Tajmeallover behind what turned out to be faltering cover. As Divas Dragonfly retreated, Tajmeallover launched her wide rally with Watch My Luck angling further out as the stablemates pulled ahead down the stretch for a 1-2 finish.
Tajmeallover held off half-sibling Watch My Luck by a head to notch her 40th career win in 1:55.2. Nighttraintovegas had emerged from the pocket at the top of the lane and secured third-place honours. Showtime Terror (Brandon Campbell), the trailer throughout, recovered from a third quarter miscue to finish fourth ahead of Lissoy with Divas Dragofly completing the finish order 26 lengths in arrears.
Gagne co-owns Tajmeallover, a homebred Tajma Hall-Watch Over Me mare, with partners Peter Van Seggelen, Carl Warnaar and Tapron Holdings Ltd. An 11-time winner from 17 starts this season, the six-year-old distaffer has boosted her bankroll over the $270,000 mark.
