Unbeaten three-year-old pacing colt Boogie Panic posted his seventh win Sunday at the Hippodrome 3R, leading from start to finish for driver Denis St Pierre.
Unraced at age two, Boogie Panic has been making up for lost time this season. The son of Major In Art has made all seven of his winning starts at 3R for trainer Francis Richard and owner/breeder Brian Paquet of Quebec, QC.
Leaving from the rail, Boogie Panic ended up parked early by Charlie Drummond (Mario Charron) but was able to get to the lead by the opening quarter mile and from there he was able to hold the field at bay and win by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:58.
A Goodday To Win (Jocelyn Gendron) was second with Robert R Robert (Louis Roy) third. Sent off as the overwhelming wagering favorite, Boogie Panic paid just $2.30 to win.
In the seventh race feature trot, Beer Maggs and trainer/driver Kevin Maguire returned to their winning ways, wiring the field in 2:01.2 to score by two open lengths. Prairie Big John (Denis St Pierre) was second with Revonah Hanover (Jocelyn Gendron) third. It was the fourth win this year for Beer Maggs, a six-year-old mare by Have A Beer. She paid $7.00 to win.
Next Sunday the Hippodrome 3R will feature its annual Drivers Tournament. Featured will be the return of last year’s winner, Yannick Gingras, who is currently the top harness racing driver in the sport. Also coming in for the tournament is Ontario’s leading driver, Jody Jamieson, and they will be going against the top six drivers this season at 3R headed by leading reinsman, Denis St Pierre.
Post time Sunday is 1:00 p.m.
