Ginger Tree Finny Delivers In Loop Season Finale

The 2025 season of harness racing at The Loop in Winnipeg, Man. came to a close on Saturday, Oct. 4 with Ginger Tree Finny delivering in the afternoon's feature.

A scratch sick from his scheduled start in the Open one week ago, Ginger Tree Finny felt fabulous heading postward in the $7,000 Open on Saturday. Michel Rey sent the 8-5 second choice to the top from post four and played hardball with 7-5 favourite Chief Is Boss (Marc Fillion) through panels of :29.1, :58.3 and 1:28.3. Putting away the public choice, Ginger Tree Finny flashed home in :30.1 to best Tami Blue (Clayton Braybrook) by nearly three lengths in a time of 1:58.4. Controlthedistance (Darryl Mason) prevailed in a three-across battle for the show spot.

A seven-year-old altered son of Captaintreacherous - Ideal Weather, Ginger Tree Finny is trained by Melanie Rey Clark for owner Laverne Turnbull of Kitchener, Ont. The bay is now a 22-time winner in his 108-start career, with nine of those wins coming in 2025 and four wins in his last four starts. He returned $5.30 to win.

While shut out on Saturday, Team Mason — driver Darryl and trainer Sherri captured the honours as the track's respective leaders in their divisions. Darryl Mason picked up 15 driving wins on the season to top Clayton Braybrook (12), Dean Rey and Marc Fillion (11). Sherri Mason sent out 17 wins as a trainer to best Braybrook (12), Lorraine Rey and Aurel Vodon (8).
