Oakridge Rambler doubled up in Open action with a wire-to-wire triumph in the Marquis Downs’ $2,200 feature Saturday night

.

The son of Firm Friend-Pamojen and driver Deborah Manning left from Post 3 and circled the Saskatoon oval while flashing quarters of :29, 1:02 and 1:30.4 en route to victory in 2:00 flat. Favourite Smart Shark (Connie Kolthammer) rallied from third-over to finish a half-length behind the leader. Four Fourty (Lance Ward) rounded out the top three.

Jeff MacLeod trains Oakridge Rambler, a winner of seven races in 21 seasonal starts and $12,750, for Manning. The five-year-old gelding’s 16th lifetime score lifted his bankroll to $33,928.

Manning and MacLeod also teamed for a victory in the card’s opener with Touch Of Magic (2:03.3).

Six races earlier in Race 2, a two-horse spill occurred marring the nine-race program. Shyloh Destiny (Tyler Redwood) and Jomarsaway (Donald Tracey) fell in the stretch. Trot Insider will provide more information on the incident if made available. Both Redwood and Tracey did drive later on the card.
