Officials with the Western Region OTB and the Western New York Harness Horsemen’s Association have stated that work on the paddocks at Batavia Downs will start next year.
An article by The Daily News has cited WROTB President and CEO Henry Wojtaszek as saying that a six-race paddock is in the plans and that it will make up for the space lost to the recent construction of the hotel on the premises.
A pact between WROTB directors and the horsemen’s association that that contained several concessions was reached this past Thursday (October 27).
“In order to build the hotel, we tore down a portion of the paddock and revamped it for the time being to accommodate the racing needs and agreed to build a new paddock,” Wojtaszek was quoted as saying. “That’s been determined to open prior to 2018 racing season.”
