Racing Under Saddle Ontario's 2015 season came to a close on Saturday night at Flamboro Downs with Santo Domingo and Marit Valstad winning the $10,000 final in wire-to-wire fashion.
Taking the lead from the inside post position, 3-5 favourite Santo Domingo ($3.40) dominated the field from start to finish. The Amigo Hall gelding led through fractions of :28.2, :57.3 and 1:28.1 en route to the 1:59.3 triumph. Massive Muscles and Marielle Enberg followed over four lengths behind in second while Twin B Excalibur and Evelyn Harms rounded out the top three finishers.
The win was the first this year for Valstad. Santo Domingo also won a pair of 2015 starts under saddle while completing in events at Georgian Downs at Mohawk Racetrack. The eight-year-old trotter is trained by Mike Guitard and owned by Jalade Investments Ltd., Deanmar Sons Stable and Peter Miskolczi.
Santo Domingo is a career winner of 24 races and over $275,000.
