If you thought you saw this horse racing last Saturday night, your eyes were not deceiving you.
This is See R Chin Win, a five-year-old trotting mare owned by Shaun Moscrop and trained by Ronda Markle. Markle wanted to celebrate the meet closing card at Kawartha Downs with something a bit different.
"I saw pictures on the Internet of horses done like that," Markle told Trot Insider. "A friend of mine who is a very good artist said she would paint it on for me. It only took about 45 minutes."
Markle's friend Janet brought some kids with her to help colour her in the skeleton design, staying away from the mare's face and just concentrating on the horse's body.
"They were all so surprised how good the horse was; she never moved a muscle. I took the opportunity to brag up my breed," Markle confessed.
Sadly the rest of the field didn't get scared off by the fright-inducing filly, as Markle notes that See R Chin Win finished "a bone-crushing sixth" in her Saturday night test for driver Fred Brethour. Although she didn't get her win photo taken, Markle noted that the trotter was stopped in front of the Kawartha Downs grandstand and many fans snapped photos of the decorated trotter.
"I would have loved to have the whole race painted up, I think it would have been great," continued Markle. "I would love to see it happen at WEG. I was hoping I would be racing on Friday so I could try it up there."
