The October racing meet continues Tuesday evening at Red Shores Summerside with a special presentation after Hurricane Fiona caused cancellations across the board last week.
The track has 12 dashes on tap with a 6 p.m. opening post time.
The $3,300 top class lines up behind the gate in race 11 of the night with a top-notch field of seven vying for victory. Moonwriter has post five in the field with David Dowling back in the seat of the Colin Johnson trainee for owner Debbie Element of Village Green, P.E.I. The 10-year-old son of Sportswriter has 38 lifetime wins in his $422,000 career but has been facing the likes of Governor’s Plate champion No Plan Intended and Gold Cup and Saucer trial starter Island Beach Boy in recent weeks.
Screen Test is the 5-2 morning line favourite from post six in the field for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Ron Gass while riding a string of top-three finishes into the event. His Boy Elroy controls the rail with Ken Murphy picking up the catch-drive aboard the Phil Sizer trainee at 6-1 morning line odds. Murphy continues to lead the way amongst drivers at the Prince County oval with 35 driving victories on the day, ahead of second place Dowling, who is closing in at 34 winners.
Other top class entries include Heart And Soul (to be driven by Jason Hughes), Nogreatmischief (Walter Cheverie), Mantario (Wade Myers) and Burn Out Hanover (Brady Sweet).
The "Backstretch Beat" likes Moonwriter to get it all: “Moonwriter was hanging around the Invitational type pacers in recent weeks and now drops back down to regular top class action. It will [be] no easy task to win this one but his $422,000 in his lifetime earnings tell you he is more than capable.”
Trainer Earl Watts has two entries on the day as the Springvale horseman continues to lead the training standings at Red Shores Summerside with 14 wins on the year.
